U6/U8/U12 Fields Closed, U16 Cancelled

Our U6, U8, and U12 fields are closed today due to the rains overnight.

Greencastle had to cancel their U16 game today (originally scheduled as our home game at 3 pm today).  This game will be rescheduled as a double header on June 1.

Upper Adams U10 cancelled as well.

U6/U8 coaches, please contact each other and attempt to reschedule your games.  Please contact Atlee to check on fields and referees status.

UK Soccer Summer Camps

The folks from UK Soccer Camps will be visiting our Littlestown AYSO fields from July 8-12.  Take a peek at their flyer.

If your child would like a summer opportunity to sharpen their skills and learn more about soccer, I highly recommend this camp.  The UK Soccer coaches worked with our U10 and U14 teams last Fall and I came away very impressed with their work.  Keep an eye out.  They'll be offering training sessions for our own coaches later this season.

Concession Stand Open Tomorrow

Due to the efforts of two volunteers, Ann Marie Garmin and Heather Noel, our concession stand will be open tomorrow morning.  If you volunteered to work the concession stand, expect to be contacted to help out within the next week or so.  We'll be staffing the concession stand in future weeks with our parent volunteers.

U8 West Manheim Games Moved

The two U8 games originally scheduled to be played in West Manheim have been moved to our fields due to a scheduling conflict at the West Manheim complex.  We will play these games on typical home fields.  The 1pm start time remains the same.

Opening Day is Tomorrow

Tomorrow we will open our season to dry fields and wonderful Spring weather.  It’ll be a great day to play some soccer.  Here are some notes as we begin our season.

Directions

Directions to the locations we visit are posted on our website.  However, some locations may be missing.  Please be sure to verify directions with your coach before traveling to an away game.

The concession stand will be closed.

Please bring any food or drink you require throughout the morning.  Our concession stand vendor from the Fall left us flat footed this season, leaving us without expected help and without the volunteers required to make the concession stand happen.  We are now looking for a concession stand manager, someone who can help stock and run the concession stand as well as organize parent volunteers.  Until someone volunteers for this role, the concession stand will remain closed this season.

Shlutz’s Fundraiser Details

One thing left out of the parent packet was the incentive prizes for our current Shlutz's Sub and Pizza sale.  Prizes will be awarded for our top 3 sellers:
  • 1st prize – $25 Target Gift Card
  • 2nd prize – $10 Target Gift Card
  • 3rd prize – $5 Target Gift Card
Please help support our fundraisers.  Fundraiser proceeds are used to maintain our fields, keep our fees down, and provide a safe environment for the kids to play soccer.

Shutterfly

Shutterfly sites for all teams were created this week.  If your team doesn’t yet have a site, please ask your coach.  This is a great tool for sharing photos, tracking games schedules, and more.

Alloway Creek Gymnasium

Parents,

We've been granted limited use of the Alloway Creek Intermediate gymnasium for practice sessions while we wait for the snow and moisture to leave our fields.  Please be respectful of this resource and work with your coach as they schedule somewhat ad hoc practices.  Note that no cleats are allowed in the gym.  Please bring your child in normal tennis shoes.

Fields Closed Due to Snow

If the snow on the ground didn’t make it obvious, our fields are closed and are expected to remain closed most of this week, if not all.  Winter hasn’t let go of us quite yet.  Consider the fields closed until further notice.  We’ll be updating their status after Wednesday.

When looking at our fields, we worry about two things this time of year:  player safety and potential damage to the fields.  The first is our main concern.  We just can’t play if the kids are in danger of hurting themselves.  The second is a major concern this time of year.  If we damage the fields now, we’ll be dealing with the results all year long, hurting our chances to practice or play as Spring finally arrives.  The grass itself hasn’t yet turned green and snow causes two problems:  the moisture sits on the fields for longer and takes longer to drain.
